And All I Loved.... Some lines from Edgar Allen Poe

I've mentioned Mr Poe in my Journal before and a few lines of his poem, 'Alone' have been floating through my mind over the last few days, so I thought I'd share the poem with you and some images from a recent shoot I did with the lovely Georgina Piper.

When I was young, I fell in love with Vincent Price in the Hammer horror film, The Fall of the House of Usher which is how I discovered Mr Poe. I must have been 11 or 12 or thereabouts but it's all these years later that I am living out my fantasies of youth and being photographed in a way inspired by his poetry and the films I loved so much.

I made this dress using beautiful cotton poplin from Jacobs Haberdashery and the detachable collar is my own pattern {which you can see more of here & here}

I'm actually thinking that this dress might need to become a pattern too at some point in the very near future.....

Many people find Edgar Allen Poe's work morbid but for me his words are inspiring and when I'm inspired, I'm uplifted. We all have our demons and sorrows, without them, we wouldn't understand joy or recognise happiness so that's what I take from his writing.

I love this churchyard near my little cottage by the sea and often come to say hello to those that rest there and all the birds and squirrels that call it home. What can I say? I have a Gothic soul!

Another youthful obsession {which still endures to this day to be honest!} were comics and I was definitively a DC girl! My favourite was Batman {go fgure} and my daughter, who is a hand poke tattoo artist did this tattoo for me. I love it and am very proud of her ~ you can see more of her work here, if tattooing is you cup of poison!

If you haven't read Poe's work or seen a Hammer film ~ put it on your to do list! You won't regret it!

I hope that you're surrounded by love and do not feel alone, especially in these strange times! I'm sending you my love,

Tara x
